There was a time when the mere mention of a 'gaming laptop' would have gotten you laughed out of a LAN party. Back in the day, the phrase 'portable gaming' was akin to suggesting you could brew espresso using a hairdryer. Preposterous! How on earth could a svelte little laptop handle the same demands as a hulking desktop rig? It was like asking a toy-sized Holden to tow a freight train. But here we are, in the future, where gaming laptops are supposed to pack just as much punch as their desktop cousins, without the need for a forklift.
But are they really up to scratch, or are we buying into a portable fantasy that leaves us with wheezy, overheating contraptions prone to spontaneous combustion?
