The Smart watch – the next computer?
I have been using my new smart watch for about two weeks now, now firstly I would like to make note that the definition of a smart watch is that it must look like and feel like a watch first, I do not consider watches that look like mini smartphones attached to a band on your arm a watch, they are mini smartphones attached to your wrist …

Does it matter if sales staff are paid commissions? Some people have argued that it is important to keep sales people motivated, I however have always strongly believed that it is the customer that should always only come first. How can you be advised on what you actually need or should get, or what is best, if there is a sweetener being offered to the sales person? It always makes me think of doctors, you know, you visit them and they always have pens and pads with this brand or that pharmaceuticals brand all over their desk. I guess it has never bothered me because then when you got to the pharmacy an “equivalent” is always offered which makes you think again.
However how can you be getting what is truly best if there is a direct incentive? This is why, even when MLN was just a one shop operation with a few Whiz people, none of us were on any sales commission …

mputer experience is heavily driven by the user’s ability to control his or her individual PC. This is what makes a computer purposeful and enjoyable to use.

So the Ultrabook, by now we have realised they are thinner and lighter, but do we care? Does it matter that my next notebook is going to be thinner and lighter? I think it’s the natural evolution of power based mobile computing, if we are going to do more than just consume digital data, then we need to step past our smart phone and tablet, to a computer that can create data and that we can carry around with us is a no brainer.
Do we need it be lighter, well yes, thinner, nice, faster – of course. However do we need to touch the screen? This I am still unsure of, if I am only going to look at things and have basic interaction with it, pointing and prodding away at the screen interface that is held in my other hand makes sense …

Well obviously the Android tablet price band has taken the traditional windows 7 starter netbook to its grave, but what I really mean is, are tablets just another computing fad? New data is saying yes. The average price seems to be getting less and sales in unit volumes are not going up. This really says two things – the android tablet will phase out into something else, the obvious seems to be some type of quasi merger with a smart phone, well then what will happen to the ipad?
The ipad undoubtedly is a great device and it has taken entry level notebook computers to its grave also (purists always believe this is where entry level notebook computers belonged in the first place), however is it a necessary device in its own right? if you find yourself saying it’s good to have but I can live without it, then its path will be the same as the lower priced android tablet …
